Proverbs 11

Again in this chapter you see God comparing the wicked to the wise, are you catching a drift. God knows and wants us to know just how important this topic is, and emphasizes it over and over again. However there is also something unique about this chapter as well. In this chapter each verse is in itself a simple truth statement that I am sure many of you have seen played out in life. So I challenge you or dare you to go back through this chapter and reread it verse by verse and spend maybe 5-10 sec. thinking about each verse. Then let me know what you you think.

There were two verses that stood out to me the most: verse 2 and verse 13.

Verse 2 says, "when pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom." During highschool at the beginning of the year, I was selfish. Later my friends betrayed me and I knew I was selfish. I apologized but they didn't forgive me right away. I was not selfish or prideful any more and I realize now, I have more wisdom about friendships and stuff like that. I make sure that nothing like that would ever happen to me again. I didn't have too much friends for a month or so but that month seemed like forever. I prayed everynight and eventually things with my friends got better.

Verse 13 says, "a gossip betrays a confidence but a trustworthy man keeps a secret." When people gossip at school, someone could over hear it. And if it is about them, it could totally 'betray their confidence'. I think this means it brings down their confidence. And that person obviously can't trust the other person with their secrets anymore. A trustworthy person keeps a secret and that is true. I definitely wouldn't want someone with a big mouth to blurt a secret everywhere. I would want someone quiet and someone I could trust to tell my secret to.

There are 3 verses that stick out to me the most. One of them is the same as Bayley's: verse 13. The other 2 are verses 24 and 25. Verse 13 is definately a verse that is evident in everyone's lives because gossip is everywhere and we all want to know it. The challange is to not want it, and have the courage to right others about it. "A gossip betrays a confidence" How true that is, because people who gossip need to do it to make themselves feel better and they lose confidence in themselves. "but a trustworthy man keeps a secret" That says that those who keep gossip to themselves and end it gain trust from others and wisdom.

Verses 24 and 25 talk about giving freely to others and in turn will gain. This reminds me of that commercial on TV, where when one person does a kind act for someone, someone else is always watching, and that encourages them to do the same thing. Verse 25 proves that--it says "he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed" That encourages me so much and seeing others do random acts of kindness.

Verse 3 and verse 5 really resonated with me. Verse 3 says, "The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity," while verse 5 says, "The righteousness of the blameless makes a straight way for them, but the wicked are brought down by their own wickedness."

I'm new to Wooster. I have a lot of decisions to make, people to get to know, and options to consider. I NEED direction. I'm fearful of letting my life be based on whims and desires of my flesh. Why? Because I have so much to lose if I do so. The Bible says that the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. There's no way of saying that nicely. I want to live one life and I want that life to be for Jesus. I want to be a man of integrity. When no one is looking, I want to stay consistent in following God, because in doing so, He clarifies my path and makes it straight. He guides me and gives me direction.

yeah ben! if you are a freshmen good for you! it is so good to see that you want and need direction in your life! just having that mind set will take you far.

verse two. the stuck up fall flat on their faces, but down-to-earth people stand firm.
i have to say this is pretty much true. their are times when i can be stuck up, when i think i am way better than someone else. the philly trip for example, i thought i was better than the people living in that city cuz i had more stuff! stuff! stuff doesn't make the person! i ended up flat on my face, realizing i was wrong.

dakota...I love the message version of that verse that you shared...it was really cool to watch God work in your heart on the Philly trip about the city and pride. I'm proud of you for letting God work in your heart!
