Proverbs 14

14:29 "A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man displays folly." This verse is one that cuts deep into the culture that we live in. Almost everybody, especially Americans, struggle with the idea of patience. We are so used to having everything at our finger tips; fast food, cell phones, internet all these things are instant and add to the difficulty of becoming more patient. So what are some the times in which we are least patient? And what are some practical ways we could grow our patience within these situations?

You know Nick, there was a great verse from Proverbs 13 that indirectly goes along with your message. 13:11 says "Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow." When I read your comment, this verse instantly came to mind. And its true Nick, we are used to having everything at our fingertips; these things ARE instant. And when I think about that verse, it goes like this:
"Dishonest money dwindles away," is kind of like how our money is not used to help others in need but it goes INSTANTLY to the things WE WANT, which is the dwindles away part. "but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow." reminds of those who have little or no money. Whatever they get they save, and it grows. I wish I could be more like them. In my eyes, those are some wise people. OK so yeah I totally connected the wrong Proverbs with this so...yeah.

One thing that sticks out to me where we're the least patient is Christmas. At Christmas, we can't wait until we open up our presents. But, do we really understand the true meaning of Christmas? Okay, so on Christmas Eve we get dressed up to go to church services that night. But all we can think about through out the service is going out to eat afterwards or going to grandma's house to get presents from her or waking up in the morning and tearing open all of those gifts. We never really think about the true meaning of Christmas because we're so impatient about getting presents. Every year before we open presents on Christmas morning, my family reads the Christmas story out of the bible. Mary and Joseph showed true patience on the way to the stable. They didn't know their son would have to be born in there. But everytime they tried going to an inn or whatever they got rejected. They were patient and didn't get angry with the inn-owners.
